Self-love at the holidays

Self-love at the holidays

One Christmas as a child we did the annual ritual of getting all dressed up, going to the big family holiday party.  Lots of very punitive conversation in the car about “being on our best behavior or else”.

The car ride ritual threat of punishment done I get to Aunties house and plunk down in my usual spot, next do my buddy-my great grandfather.  I watched him selectively turn up or down his hearing aid based on how much he liked or disliked the person coming over to talk to him.

In between “family chats” I asked him if he was afraid someone’s feelings would get hurt if they saw him do it? He said, “I really don’t care what people think” and he meant it.  I loved it. Loved it because it was so authentic, honest, impersonal, and frankly an example of acting from a true place of Self-Love.

Self-love is about setting aside the idea of always staying on the good side of someone’s feelings and making efforts to move forward on what you want and need for yourself.

Sometimes that means not caring about “Hurt feelings” when you decide not to do something with or for a family member simply because you don’t want to.  No excuse or good reason necessary.

This holiday practice healthy selfishness and start thinking about the essential life questions that you will bring into next year.

“What personal goals do I have for myself that I want to make priority?”

“What do I need to do to make space in my life for the things that matter to me?

“What boundaries do I need to set with people in the next year to make that happen?”

But most importantly take a few minutes each day for the rest of the year to get a clear vision of what you want in the next year cycle.  Set aside the “How” for now, you can figure that out later, but work a bit on the “what” these next few weeks.

Love yourself enough to turn down your hearing aid for the people places and situations that aren’t serving you and turn it up for those that do. And know that its all-good no matter what.

And on that note since this is the last newsletter of the year I wanted to say it’s been and honor and a joy to be part of your lives in 2022.  Intuitively I see lots of exciting changes for everyone next year (for me too!) and I look forward to working with all of you on those new goals and wishes.

And if you are interested in a preview of some of the cool stuff coming from me next year check out the website for my new book launching January 25th, 2023 “The high-income healer; how to turn your healing gift into a fulfilling full-time business” where you can see the first 40 pages before anyone else does.
