The Secret to Making More Money
From my long, pre-hypnotherapist, career in sales I can still remember my 2 biggest sales weeks ever. The first one was the day after I had called in sick from my job. Was a I sick? Nope. I had made the mistake of starting the best book I have ever read on a Sunday afternoon (Outlander by Diana Gabaldon in case you are curious). I couldn’t, or rather didn’t want to, put it down and I read it for 30 hours straight because I just had to know what happened with Jamie and Claire. I called in sick Monday to achieve this goal.
What happened Tuesday? Not sure why, but I was excited about life again and ended up making over $2,000 commission in just 4 days. Normally, I averaged that much in a month.
The next big week I had was when I told my boss (I didn’t ask) that I would be coming in at 10AM on a Friday because I wanted to go to the 6AM showing of “Return of the King,” the last of the Lord of the Rings series. Yes, I am a nerd in case that wasn’t already clear. I had my best day ever at that job and it followed into the next week.
Why did this happen?
I personally get inspired by a good story, so both of those got me fired up made me very happy. While I wouldn’t encourage that behavior if you want to keep your job, don’t be too afraid of taking a day occasionally to get excited about life again.
We get so hung up on things being a certain way; keeping your nose to the grindstone, working hard at our stuff, and we forget that the key to being inspired is to play.
So, if you are lacking in inspiration take my advice and take a day off from work, school, or family obligations and go do something that inspires you. Go to the Getty Museum, spend 30 hours straight ready a great book, paint something, or even just block out 4 hours to do “nothing in particular.” You will be surprised how much doing nothing will make you capable of doing everything. Love yourself enough to take a day to just play.
