For successful people Its rarely just about the money
I’ve worked with a lot of multi-millionaire clients over the years and there are a few things I have observed that set them apart from everyone else, aside from just their success of course.
They own businesses. I hear a lot of.. “I can’t work for someone else” “My attitude renders me unemployable” They do not have a lot of patience with the system and strongly object to the phrases like “but this is how it’s done here” “This is the only way to do it”
It’s not about the money with them: They don’t ask the question “How much does this cost” as often as the question “How much time will this save me?”. I once saw a client almost 3K on first class airline ticket because it meant he would not miss an important business meeting rather than $300 on the earlier coach flight. He closed a massive deal at that meeting by the way.
Often They value safety and convenience over status symbols: I had a client that went to the BMW dealership to buy a new car (with cash) but instead bought a Toyota Corolla because “consumer reports said they never break down and I don’t want my wife and kids stranded somewhere looking for a mechanic who can work on a German car”.
They aren’t afraid to experiment: They are more willing to spend money on an outside the box marketing campaign rather than the “usual way” and see how it goes.
They aren’t afraid to change course or abandon ship: On the flip side they also aren’t afraid to say, “ok that didn’t work” and abandon a losing idea rather than riding a bad investment all the way to the bottom. Or simply change how they present their offering to the public.
Its about solving a problem: Every successful businessperson I have ever met started by seeing a problem in the world that they thought they could solve or solve better than someone else.
Many times, I have heard “I couldn’t find a place to buy (quality, low priced, organic..whatever) so I created one.” “I saw a market with one seller and thought I can do that better and cheaper, so I started my company”
They make and maintain connections: They seek out and surround themselves with successful individuals who can help with achieve even more success in the future.
They aren’t afraid to do stuff for free: “I gave away so many free samples when I started, and it really kicked off my business” or “I put out so much free content on my channels and it really generates a ton of paid business”
And lastly but most importantly:
It’s fun for them: I hear over and over the passion my most successful clients have for the game of what they do. Whether it’s the satisfaction in helping people or the pleasure of putting out a good product you are proud of and other people like.
For the most successful I have met, it always seems to come done to the energy of play. Money and success follows people who follow their passions in creative ways.
So today ask yourself the question “what kind of game would I like to play?” start with that and be open to fun playful creative adventures.
