The Magic of Living life more Authentically
I see clients all the time who want to be more comfortable being the most authentic version of themselves, but they aren’t always sure what that really means.
Since this has come up a lot lately in session, I thought I would talk about what living life more authentically really looks like.
Not branded: Even though we are long past high school, people are still trying to brand themselves as belonging to a particular group a “professional” “an athlete” “a mother” “a prepper”. Authenticity says, “why not be all of those things and a comedian..that sounds like fun!”
Having a large verity of interests that don’t necessarily go together. Like enjoying the music of Enya and Ramstein (Ramstein is like Metallica only it’s in German) at the same time. Doing ballet and riding motorcycles. A person living there most authentic is comfortable enjoying things society or “branding” says shouldn’t go together.
Having a higher level of honesty: When you start to be more honest with yourself about what you like and don’t like and all that goes with it, you start to be more honest with those around you. I’ll be honest here, not everyone will like that..just saying.
More in touch with your intuition: When you drop the mask of trying to be part of a particular mold or group then you have more access to your own intuition and that can give you some surprising insights into “what’s really going on here”.
Being a bit unpredictable: Living your most authentic life makes your behavior a bit unpredictable to friends and family. Authenticity means you won’t always do or say what is expected.
People will either really like you or they really wont: Being authentic will also mean some people will not like you for reasons very much their own. Its ok. When you try too hard to make everyone want to be your friend some of your authentic self gets lost in the process.
By contrast when you are being more authentic you may find new connections with people who don’t necessarily agree with your perspectives but admire your level of honesty.
Requires courage: I hate to say it, but you already know, the world does not always treat kindly those who do not fit into a particular mold, and you will need to develop thicker skin when you attempt to live a more authentic life. But trust me, what you lose in one area you gain back 10-fold in others.
Know that you are loved, valued and cared about and that being more of your soul self provides greater rewards than you can ever imagine.
