Many moons ago I got asked out on what I thought was a date with a guy I knew from church. I didn’t really like him, but the invitation was to a classical guitar concert, and I particularly love classical guitar.
He showed up at my house with another one of our guy friends, so I thought “ok, not a date”.
No, it was something so much worse! (Take a breath this isn’t SCI SVU-just a bad date).
In reality it was an hour-long pitch for Cell Tech Super Blue Green Algae which was a Multi Level Marketing Ponzi scheme..Plus someone played the guitar very badly for like 8 minutes.
I was PISSED! And hungry because, not a date means, no dinner except for some nasty blue green algae snacks that even today I cringe when I think about them. And he drove so no escape route.
So, what ended up happening..
Well, at the event I met his dad and grandmother who I liked, saw my own godfather was there too having been conned in a very different way. He died not soon after, so this was one of my last chances to see him. And later, having gotten in good with the family, I was introduced to my “date’s” younger brother whom I really, really liked.
Which brings me to my point
Sometimes in life you receive an invitation that maybe doesn’t sound great but for some reason feels good. Don’t be afraid to take a risk and try something new with someone new even if its just to make friends. You would be surprised how often synchronicity brings you exactly what you are looking for.
By the way, I married my dates younger brother, and his lovely family became mine and for that I am so grateful. However, I think my now brother in law was a bit sore that I elected not to become part of his downline. Ha!! I am sure he’s over it by now.
Say Yes to an invitation and…
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!!!
