Do you know there is an accent that is found nowhere on Earth but on TV? It’s called “General American” and prospective newscasters from areas of the country must learn it in order to have a career. Therefore, almost all newscasters sound basically the same with no way of discerning what area of the country they are from.
People pay literally thousands of dollars to learn how to do this fake accent, even when regional dialect can be quite pretty.
There is an ideal size for a model so they can fit into “Sample Size” for clothing, which is typically size 0–4 and prospective models need to be able to fit perfectly into that size in order to have a job. Almost no woman outside of the modeling industry wears clothing in that size.
Every year millions of women spend billions of dollars trying to be the size they see in a magazine. Even professional models aren’t that size for very long. They often “fast” for a couple of days before a photoshoot to get there.
Ever been to a model home? Ever notice that the “books” on display are often empty or if there are real books they are by unknown authors and seem to have perfectly colored spines that match the colors of the room? That’s because you can buy books by the pound that come in a specific color you are looking for.
We as a society love to make “ideal” things that are not real. Because, frankly, real is messy, it’s confusing. Why would the same person like 50 Shades of Gray and Opening to Channel, yet both of those are on my shelf right now and the spines don’t match.
All three examples are things we see all the time that are not real. They were never meant to be real. They were all created to get people excited about something so they will buy it. Get their attention and keep it. Everyone knows it yet …
People all over the world right now are striving to be fake, not just in those areas but in many areas of their lives and it does not make us as humans happy.
We as people need to begin to reject the fake and embrace our own personal truth. Rather than trying to be a size 0, which even the models will tell you isn’t healthy, work on loving yourself at whatever size you are. Rather than trying to make your house look perfect, embrace the mess. Rather than trying to make yourself look or sound like someone else, work on being happy for you just as you are.
We need to stop striving to be the “ideal,” which is fake, and work on being ourselves. I promise if you will embrace this you will be much happier with the result.
Allow your real self to shine and let everyone begin to learn to love the diversity that is you.
